Yes, 3-13 just a year ago. However, this is a team that was left with a huge salary cap problem when GM John Butler left, who knew when to leave town. Now that GM Tom Donahoe and Coach Gregg Williams have things under control, look for a surprise season from the Bills. Drew Bledsoe was a significant upgrade at the QB spot, where there was nothing but controversy the past few seasons. Bledsoe brings stability and a Super Bowl appearance to an offense that has lacked leadership. At 30, he still has what it takes to get the ball down field. A pure pocket passer, the Bills significantly upgraded the offensive line with the signing of OT Trey Teague and drafting 6-6 375- pound OT Mike Williams out of Texas. Bledsoe has been sacked 100 times the past 2 years, so it is imperative the Bills protect their investment. With the improvement upfront, the Bills are hoping to cut down on the mistakes. They led the league in penalties (123) and were second in yards penalized (954). Eric Moulds and Peerless Price are a formidable duo at WR, with Jay Riemersma at TE.Running behind Bledsoe will be second year man Travis Henry who was fighting injuries last year and gained just 729 yards rushing. With Kevin Gilbride as the OC this offense improves.

The defense is young and improving, the addition of London Fletcher from the Rams, will lend leadership to this young group. CB's Antoine Winfield and Nate Clements are 2 hard hitting CB's who will make big plays this year.Williams who came to Buffalo last season, was the DC at Tennessee and is developing this group into his style of play.

Special Teams will have to be better this year, when your letting the other team have short fields to work with, that only spells trouble. Mike Hollis is now the kicker and he should be better.

The Bills lost six games by 6 points or fewer, with four games by 3 points last year. A young team with a year of experience under their belts, combined with some key veteran signings and the Bills will be in the hunt for the AFC East title this year.

PREDICTION... 10-6

MIAMI-While teams are measured on their playoff performance, the Dolphins are easily the best team in the AFC. With Fiedler's continued maturity, Zach Thomas' defense, and the addition of Ricky Williams, they should be leading the pack when they hit New England in October. With an easy schedule, this game will be a decisive game as to whether Miami is working to enter as a division champ or wildcard in the 2002 playoffs. Will win at least 9 games. Good bet opening weekend at Detroit.

The Dolphins-Raiders and Rams-Bucs in the Championship Games and the Dolphins win the Super Bowl over the Rams by 3 points!
-Chris(Illinois).7.28.01

I would have to say Miami Dolphins are always on the mind at the beginning of the season, and every year they pull out the choker, and gag themselves home in December. However, I believe this year will be a little different, and the Dolphins will make it to the AFC Championship, but will drop again in a close match-up to either The Steelers, or The Patriots.
-Steve P(Las Vegas).8.29.02

I believe the Dolphins will win eleven games again and win the division. However I believe they will lose in the AFC divisional round to the Indianapolis Colts.

It is no secret that the Ravens' 2nd ranked defense is a mere shell of its former self. The staple that kept the group together, DC Marvin Lewis is now a Redskin. That leaves Mike Nolan in charge of a group that is retooling using the 3-4 scheme this year. The squad that led this team to a Super Bowl Championship 2 season's ago is pretty much gone.

Starting with the defense, Ray Lewis remains the soul of a unit that has been trying out free agents to see if they can rebuild fast.Peter Boulware will surely be a force as he led the team with 15 sacks last season. Top draft pick S Edward Reed from Miami will help a secondary that is very thin right now. Reed a four year starter for the 'Canes was a tremoundous leader, and I'm sure Head Coach Brian Billick hopes he can have the same impact here.

Offensively, this will be six straight years the Ravens have a new starting QB. 3rd year QB Chris Redman gets the nod, as the Elvis Grbac fiasco has ended. The big question will be if RB Jamal Lewis can be an impact after blowing out his knee last year. The Ravens will need him to take the pressure off Redman.

The Return Teams once again ranked near the top in the NFL, and will have to be able to do it again this year. Old reliable, PK Matt Stover hit on 30 of 35 FG's and scored 115 points. The punting duties will go to 4th round pick Dave Zastudil.

Baltimore has much rebuilding to do, and this could be a difficult year for Ravens fans.

PITTSBURGH-I have no doubt that 2002-2003 will be another big year for Bill Cowher. They are truly one of my favorite teams to watch. Having found 'The Bus' and Ma'afala to be one of the most potent and exciting tandems in 2001, the experience of the New England loss may be the last ingredient Stewart needs to command Ward and Burgess to an AFC Championship this year. With a tough schedule outside their division, they will need all-star performances from Kirkland and Bell to keep games close. With a shortened division, 11 wins should be a breeze. Good bet opening weekend at New England with the points (quite possibly the first Tease of the year).

The Raiders will win the Super Bowl because it may be Tim Brown,Rich Gannon, and Jerry Rice's last season.I think those guys will do whatever it takes to win.
-Sean B.(Bakersfield).9.3.02
SAN DIEGO-Only two hours from L.A., San Diego is our only real chance to experience LIVE NFL action. Unfortunately, it looks like it will be another year of visits to watch opposing teams. The Chargers have a unique mix of aging veterans in Flutie and Seau, an who could be great book ends for a stong, willing offense of defense.

Neither exist here in the young Tomlinson or the unkown defensive squad. I am going out on a limb here that defenses are not shakin' in their boots to face Curtis Conway or Nate Turner. Schottenheimer will do everything he can to win six games this year. Cincinnati will not contribute to this total on opening day.

NFC EAST

DALLAS

visitors speak out
I think Dallas will come out of nowhere and win the NFC and play the Dolphins in the Super Bowl. You may think I'm stupid. Dallas has had the best off-season out of anybody. They have talent at just about every position. I see Miami and Dallas with a 12-4 record. Quincy Carter struggled last season but in December he seemed to find his comfort zone. He will be a breakthrough player as well. I think Dallas can beat St.Louis if Carter can be successful. The 'boys are back. The NFL will have surprising teams every year. The league is more competitive now then ever before. I see Dallas beating Miami 28-14 in the Super Bowl. You watch.

PHILADELPHIA-Anybody who loves the NFL, and watched last year's battle at Soldier's Field must agree that this team will once again be an NFC title contender. One of the offensive powerhouses, McNabb, Thrash, and Pinkston will hammer opposing defenses. The question once again, can Staley maintain a healthy running attack (having already lost Buckhalter to injury) Can Westbrook pick up the slack. The defense seems to be adjusting the loss of Trotter to cross-town rival Washington, and Whiting and Dawkins are expected to stand- up and take down offenses. Philadelphia will be making a run at 11 victories this year. We will know early on with a big openeer at Tennessee.

WASHINGTON-If you were looking for a postive outlook on the Redskins, then you better find a site that is not run by a long-time Tennessee Volunteer fan. This season's losing ways will be quite enjoyable to watch. Spurrier will be counting on the likes of Wuerffel and Matthews, 2nd and 3rd-string quarterbacks at best, to command victory. While an outstanding peformer, Stephen Davis will be frustrated, and thrown out-of-sync, by an offense that will become heavily dependent on a deep passing attack. Fortunately, their aging defense of Armstead, Green, and Smith will only be tested by weak offenses like Arizona, New York, and Dallas. Of course, the frozen Philadelphia turf will definitely convince Spurrier that he is not in Florida anymore. They will be lucky to win 6 games. Opening day at Arizona should be quite a fiasco.

CHICAGO-For those of us bred in Chicago, last year had a such a sweet taste. With a run like theirs, the remodel of Chicago Stadium could not have come at a worse time. No football fan can deny the excitement in watching Urlacher crush defensive schemes, while Big Cat Williams and Anthony Thomas run over opposing defenses. The real question: Can the aging Miller stay healthy, and reproduce last year's epic perfomances. If so, a run at the NFC will be in the cards. If not, fans will be frustrated nationwide watching Chris Chandler attempt to run an another offense as the back-up. Another year facing the infamous thorn of the Green Bay Packers. With the Bears repeated opening day stumbles at Minnesota, you will definitely want to hit them as a 'Tease' on opening day if you are gettin' on the bandwagon at all. 10 victories come easy this season - anymore could be tough.

Green Bay Packers, Brett Favre and the Frozen Tundra seem to be a farely common pick every year. Not for me, unlike the so-called experts in Football ( Who may I say are WRONG EVERY YEAR ) Need to wake up. Packers hold an edge over the Bears, but it won't matter this year cause The Chicago Bears are gonna dance on ice in Green Bay, and all the experts are gonna see is The Pack on Ice, and The Bears in the Super Bowl. Unstoppable Defense, and this year a surprising passing and rushing game from the NEW Monsters of the Midway.
Super Bowl Predictions: Chicago 27 New England 20
MVP: Anthony Thomas, Defensive MVP: Brian Urlacher
They have heart, and the will to win, and if they stay healthy they will be feared for a long time to come.

DETROIT-For those of us in Pac-10 territory, we know that the Texans misjudged when they took Carr over Harrington. This guy has a gun and a will to win. Do not expect this team to linger in the basement this year. Az-Zahir Hakim offers him a prime target, and Schlesinger the protection to work. The question will now be how does this rag-tag defense keep opposing offenses of the field, and offer Harrington a chance to work.

Don't count your wins with Tampa Bay just yet! The New Orleans Saints are in that division as well. The Saints are hungry for a rematch with the Buccaneers. Duece McAllister, is a machine at tailback. Joe Horn is a dominant reciever, Jerome Pathon and Donte Stallworth are some quick recievers as well. The Saints' offense will keep them in the games with their pass defense having some problems. I see the Saints winning the division.
-'Shlong'.8.31.02

TAMPA BAY-Call me crazy! but I think the Bucs are cursed by Doug Williams and their horrible original tangerine jerseys. Another year of major turnovers at every key position will prove troublesome for Gruden, who will find his cool exterior trusted at every turn. They will attempt to rely yet again on Warren Sapp in a division that will be test a defense's corners at every opportunity. While the new double threat of Jurevicius is appealing, nobody is ever sure which Keyshawn will show up (translation: he is no Jerry Rice); this could once again too much pressure on Alstott and Pittman to be heroes instead of closers. They should be able to squeeze out their regular 9 wins. Waiting on my pick versus New Olreans for the moment.

SAN FRANCISCO- If you are a repeat offender to the site, you know that I am always willing to gamble on the Niners. 'Course that was when Mariucci was a committed member of the squad. There seems to be no reason, especially with the additon of Seattle and Arizona to the division, that they should not hit the playoffs as a championship contender. The balanced offense of Garcia, Hearts, and Owens will once again prove to be a handful for opposing defenses. The question will be the strength of their defense to stop Denver, Washington, and St. Louis in the opening month of the season. Will win at least 9 games. Good bet opening at home versus N.Y. Giants.

SEATTLE-Ego is a very powerful element in professional sports. Forget about Holmgren's obsession with quarterbacks, and finding the next Favre (which we know to be impossible), his arrogance will once again be the largest hurdle for Seattle Fans. By trading away Watters' experience, he is putting all his eggs in Dilfer's basket (Brock Huard is definitely not bringing home a Super Bowl championship as a team leader). While Seattle should walk over Arizona, San Francisco and St. Louis will make the ol' AFC West look like a walk in the park. Will struggle to make the .500 mark. Look to the hard-hitting Oakland defense and crowd to have Seattle chasing its first victory in week 2.
